After silence, that which comes closest

to expressing the inexpressible is music.

NOVA MADRUGADA

Nova Madrugada is world chamber jazz songs, stories,
and dances; a collective of artists and educators.

In addition to performing, Nova Madrugada has a strong
educational focus based on the diverse background of its
members - the group creates and implements workshops
and performance/teaching series for public school,
university and festival settings based on
jazz and world music components.

From the Columbus Dispatch Local Limelight article:

"... what will happen at each performance -- will we have
poets, singers, dancers? How will we play the music
we played the last time you heard us? Show up to find
out what will happen, knowing you can trust us."

** New recording Tadashi's Room to be released in 2008 **

One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do
to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul.
Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it.
If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.
Do not lose heart. We were made for these times.

Clarissa Pinkola Estes

LUCEYS MAZE

Luceys Maze is a beautiful and unexpected
original experience featuring the voice and keyboards of
Michelle Ishida Lucey, also of The Mary Anns
and formerly of Mary Adam 12 and WishyFish.

Her Stevie Nicks and Ella Fitzgerald inspired alto voice
is complemented by acoustic bass, drum kit,
semi-grand concert harp, atmospheric electric guitar,
Wurlitzer piano and trained soprano vocal harmonies.
The group performs Michelle's original songs
as well as timeless jazz/folk/vocal songs by Brian Casey.

Part jazz, part folk, part atmospherics and part
Buddhist commentary on nature, evolution, and the
last polar bear -- Luceys Maze has a truly unique sound.

Michelle is currently working on new material and the band
is in the process of recording the music they perform at
Espresso Yourself Music Cafe, Rumba Cafe,
local festivals, and various other venues.
